"Your late-season guests at Sauvat report back, firstly to express our thanks for a lovely stay in your home there.

We are veterans now of eight holidays in France and Italy and do not remember a more pleasant base for the leisurely explorations we enjoy most Autumns. The house has such a benign and friendly atmosphere, and you have renewed it with such taste and sense.

We will recommend your lovely house to any of our friends who are considering experiencing country life in an under-known region of France - though I first covered its starker side on a Raleigh upright bike when I'd finished a semester at the Sorbonne in 1952! We loved all the beautiful wildlife, made a good stab at Romanesque churches and climbed to the top of Chateaux de Val and d'Anjony - both real treasures.

We both reiterate our thanks for a happy and comfortable stay at Sauvat, long to be remembered and reminisced about".

"We have had a nice holiday here in Sauvat and have visited several places. The area is very pretty and we have enjoyed all the scenic routes. We have been to Bort les Orgues, Ydes, Mauriac, Ussel, Clermont-Ferrand, Puy Mary, Aurillac, Salers, Tauves, Murat, Chateau de Val and Chateau d'Auzers. Salers is well worth a visit and is a beautiful town. Puy Mary was very pretty too. We also did a very scenic drive through the Gorge d'Aveze. The people in the area are very nice. On Sundays, everything is closed and shops close for two hours every lunchtime. The hypermarkets are open till late.

We loved the garden and made good use of the patio and barbecue. Wildlife in the area is fascinating to watch and we have seen many birds (including kites and kestrels) around the mountains. There are some lizards near the house and a red squirrel lives nearby!

We visited the tannery in Bort les Orgues and although we speak very little French we got by as all the people are so helpful. The tannery is well worth a visit".

"I hope that one of our daughters mailed you some time ago to say that we'd all had a great time at your house in Sauvat - I asked her to do this, as my wife and I were going to spend another ten days or so in France, blessedly away from e-mail.

It was a terrific fortnight for all of us, not least the two grandchildren, who had a fantastic time playing in the garden. There are lots of wonderul memories - the surprise menu in the auberge up the road where the food keeps coming and coming, the astonishing butcher in Ydes, alongside the beautiful countryside and fascinating wildlife.

With best wishes,"

"Have had a lovely week and thought we would pass on some of the highlights.

Aux Trois Chenes - Le Bourg, Veyrieres
Very nice restaurant which has just opened. We really enjoyed the food (not too much, well thought out menu) and the wine in the pichet was excellent. Service was great with a husband and wife team. We have left a receipt in the folder.

Le Grange aux Fleurs
Great scenery and food. Well worth a night out. Loved it!

Cotes de la Dordogne
Great food and view.

Salers - market day
Beautiful village, great market. Small but worth a morning out.

Saignes
A pretty, small village. Aperitif and meal in the Relais was pleasant and the atmosphere was lovely!

In general - lovely unspoilt, quiet and relaxing area.

Enjoy!"

"I just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at Sauvat. The house was the best we've ever stayed in, in France - a real home rather than just a base. The views were stunning. We visited lots of places - Salers was gorgeous and so was the Chateau du Val and the view from the top of the Orgues. On our last day we did the walk from the house through Le Monteil and back into the other end of Sauvat. Near Le Monteil, we climbed up to the trig point - If I could have put the view and the fresh air into a bottle and bring it home I would have done!

We had lovely meals at the restaurant in Sauvat and at the Ferme d'Auberge - nothing beats good French country cooking.

Thank you so much for the use of your home, we had a wonderful holiday."
